The Culture Fit
You want to look at the culture fit because this determines whether the applicant is going to fit in with the culture that you have within your business. Camaraderie is important and if you don’t see someone as fitting the bill, it’s going to lead to problems.
A recent article in The Washington Post commented that a culture fit cannot be ignored and can drive the quality of a hire by an astonishing 12 percent. This means that you have to pay attention to whether a potential job applicant can cut it when it comes to working within the environment that you have created.
The Network Fit
Another form of finding the right fit is to focus on whether the candidate is a good fit within the network. This is done by defining what success looks like inside of the job position. The candidate should know the subject matter inside and out and be able to use the technologies that surround the job effectively.
The resume can tell you a lot about the network fit in terms of what their expertise is and what kind of experience they have. You want to make sure the network fit is there so you don’t have problems. Without a good fit inside the network, it may be hard for objectives to be accomplished and this could reduce the productivity that comes out of the position. When you’re running a small business, you can’t afford to lose any productivity.

The culture fit can be established during the interview. Talking to the candidate can tell you a lot about how the person will get along with others. The network fit can be established earlier on, by looking at the resume.
